Domestic & CommercialFind out more →A clean chimney is a safe chimney. Whether you have an open fire, a wood burner or a multi-fuel stove, I'll sweep it properly and give you a certificate to prove it. Sweeps start from £85, for homes and commercial premises.
The best time is just before the heating season starts. If you sweep twice a year, make the second one after the peak of winter. It also pays to sweep after a stove has sat unused for a long stretch, and to follow your stove maker's own instructions.
Guidance from HETAS, the independent solid fuel certification body.
These are starting prices. The final price depends on your appliance, how many chimneys you have and how easy they are to reach, and I'll confirm it up front, free of charge.
Safety first: if smoke or fumes are coming into the room, stop using the fire until it's been checked. And make sure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm near any fire or stove.
As a guide, HETAS (the independent solid fuel certification body) recommends at least twice a year if you burn wood or house coal, and at least once a year for smokeless fuels. The best time is just before the heating season starts. If you're not sure what suits your setup, ask me and I'll point you in the right direction.
Make sure the fire has been out long enough for the ash to cool, and clear out any unburnt fuel. Move ornaments and small items away from the fireplace. I'll protect the rest of the room with dust sheets.
Yes. Smokeless fuel is cleaner, but the chimney still needs sweeping at least once a year.
Yes. A certificate is issued on completion of every sweep.
A small camera is sent up the flue so I can see its condition along the whole length, and I take photos of anything that needs attention. It's worth adding to a sweep if you've just moved in, the flue hasn't been used for a while, or you suspect damage. It starts from £75 when added to a sweep.

I'm Jason, the person behind JR Garden Services. I grew up in Rickmansworth and I'm now based in Watford, so Hertfordshire has always been home. I set up JR Garden Services to provide the kind of service I'd want myself: reliable, straightforward and built on doing a proper job.
Whether it's keeping a garden looking its best with regular maintenance, tackling a one-off clearance, carrying out tree work and TPO applications, or even getting your chimney swept, I'm happy to get stuck in and take care of it.
I'm a big believer in keeping things simple: a fair price, clear communication, turning up when I say I will and leaving your property tidy. If I say I'm going to do something, I'll make sure it's done properly.
I'm also a licensed waste carrier, and all green waste is disposed of responsibly and in line with UK regulations. No fly-tipping, no shortcuts, just a job done properly from start to finish.
Most of all, I want my customers to know who they're dealing with. It's my name on the van, and I take pride in the work I leave behind.
Based in Watford, I cover a wide area across Hertfordshire and into north-west London. If you're not sure whether I cover your area, just ask.
